A Little Bit About Me

My Teaching Philosophy:

"[The Hummingbird] is a solid reminder that every [student], no matter how impoverished, gives lasting gifts to the person entrusted with his care. If that sounds grandiose, so be it. I rub my thumb down the back of that [wooden carved] bird before each new [student], and not for good luck. I do it to remind myself that I receive something meaningful from every person. I gain much more than I give. [The hummingbird] turned out to be a totem of my work, a permanent reminder that every [student] is capable of enormous and unexpected gifts."

I was born and raised in New York City and Long Island, but I've raised my own family (six wonderful children) in Greenville (seven of those years right here in Berea). We've grown and added a son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, a future daughter-in-law, and four beautiful grandbabies. I love Jesus!

I'm attending Furman University, expecting to receive my M.A. in Education with a Concentration in TESOL next summer 2022!! This is my second year at Berea Middle, teaching 6th grade ELA. I've taught in private school, home school, and English 1-4 at Carolina High School. I'm Highly Qualified to teach English Language Arts (5-8) and English (9-12), have certifications to teach Gifted & Talented, AP English Literature and AP English Language, and have received training to co-teach ELA inclusion classes for MLs. I also have my certificate in Technology Proficiency and have completed my Read2Succeed requirements. In the evenings and on weekends, I teach English 9 for Liberty University's Online School.

I am truly excited to be a Berea Middle Bulldog, and I am looking forward to welcoming all my 6th graders to what I hope will be one of the best years of their lives :)
