Welcome to my website! My name is Wynne Boliek, and if you have found your way to this website, then that means more than likely I am going to have your child in one of the three classes that I will be teaching this year: World History, Civics, or Government & Economics. I chose to come to Southside High School eleven years ago, and it was one of the best decisions I have made in my career in education. Our school is full of caring, passionate teachers who cannot wait to help your children become the best and brightest that Greenville County Schools has to offer, but enough about Southside, let me tell you a little bit more about myself.
Before coming to Southside I taught at Brashier Middle College in the Social Studies department for 4 years. Outside of school you may see me at all the home Clemson Football games and tailgates. I enjoy traveling, spending time with my friends and family, watching classic movies, and playing with my Boston Terrier, Humphrey, whom I named after Humphrey Bogart. I love traveling to other countries. So far I have visited France, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Costa Rica, Belize, and Mexico. Hopefully, in the near future I will be able to take a group of students on an educational tour somewhere in Europe or Asia!
I recently became an Apple Certified Teacher (c/o) 2016 and I am currently working on becoming a Google Certified Educator as well. I was halfway through the program to receive my Masters Degree in information and Library Sciences when the COVID-19 Pandemic put that on hold. I plan on picking that back up in the near future and I plan on beginning my second Masters Degree in United States History from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History as well. I should be done with that Master's Degree at the end of this coming school year.
Finally, as a social studies teacher, I have to say that I love what I do and I take it extremely seriously. You may hear from your children that in class I am funny, extra, over the top, or dramatic. Oftentimes this is very true, but there is a reason behind that. Too often math and science get pushed to the front as the most important classes to the detriment of Social Studies (and English, usually). I do believe that math and science are important, but so is social studies. History is especially important! I became a historian and I teach history because I believe learning from our past through through intensive analysis of ALL history, not just the good or comfortable aspects of history, is the only way we can make our nation be the nation that our founding fathers strove this nation to be when they took a huge gamble on the July 4th in 1776. So I look forward to having immense amount of fun with each and every one of your children, as well as working hard and accomplishing our academic goals as well.
