Class overview
This introductory, semester-long course is designed for the student with no Theatre experience and meets the Fine Arts elective requirement for South Carolina. This course covers a broad range of topics related to the art of performance and the theatre. Students will study the history and basic terminology of theatre, as well as introductory improvisation, voice/diction, stage movement and conventions.. All instruction adheres to the South Carolina Career Ready Standards for Theatre Education (secondary) within the areas of Creating, Performing/Producing/Presenting, Responding, and Connecting.

Unit 1 - Pantomime/Mime - Vocab and Areas of the stage Test
Unit 2 - Acting Technique - Scene Performance w/ Script
Unit 3 - Voice/Diction - Write and record a radio theatre show
Unit 4 - Devising Theatre - Create an original character and write, memorize, and perform a monologue for the character
Unit 5 - History / Conventions - Write a Greek Theatre-inspired play, perform it while wearing homemade Greek Theatre Masks.
