My first experience with the German language came when I entered Greece Arcadia High School (a suburb of Rochester NY) and had to choose a foreign language to study in order to fulfill the requirements for college admittance and a Regents Diploma from the State of New York. My German teacher was excellent and won many awards for teaching throughout her career.
Through the years, my parents and I have hosted nine exchange students from different parts of Germany. While teaching in Georgia, one of the teachers from the exchange group resided with my wife and me.
After graduation from high school, I was an exchange student and resided with a German family for one year attending a Gymnasium in Würzburg, Germany. I also attended the Universität Bamberg, Germany for my third year of undergraduate studies through the University of South Carolina.
