Weaving

Students are starting out the new year working on art representative of Dr. Martin Luther King's vision of diversity and cultures being woven together… "we are all woven together in a single garment of destiny".

Art for our Heroes

We will be starting our month of November making art for others.  We honor and celebrate our local Veterans by making red poppy inspired cards to be given out at a local Veterans Day Program. We will also be working on our own poppy art inspired by the artist, Georgia O'Keefe. November is a time to be thankful and so we share our talents to show our appreciation.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to our Washington Center students and families! We are starting off the school year learning about the element of art, texture. Students have been playing in sand and creating different works of art using sand. We have enjoyed the sensory activities while watching stories told through sand and light. Below, you will see some of our students playing and creating with sand.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to our Washington Center students and families! We are celebrating our school's 50th Anniversary! In art, we will be making our mark with International Dot Day, another celebration we love. Students will learn about Pointillism and create a special work of art. We will talk about famous artists and practice new techniques. This year will bring new and exciting adventures that I cannot wait to share with you all!

Third quarter 2021-22

Art Swap

Our students have been swapping their art with fellow artists at different Greenville County elementary schools. For a month, we send our art to another school for them to display. In return, we display their artwork for our students and staff to enjoy. It has been an ongoing tradition for several years. It is a great opportunity for others to learn about our school, and a fantastic way for all to share their talents.

Moving Through the Year

Our students have been exploring art through "play". We have built robots that draw, created colorful patterns with remote control cars, and used different tools to create lines in a Zen sand garden. Students are more engaged when they are having fun, which ends up in some really cool art. We will be starting off the New Year using several techniques and/or processes to create a wintery scene and an aurora filled sky. Science and art are always a great combination!

Elements of Art- Lines, Shapes and Colors

Students have been learning all about the elements they use in their works of art. Thus far, we have focused on lines, shapes and colors. We celebrated International Dot Day after reading The Dot and have been working on a new paper mural to hang in the art room. Students created some wiggly line sculptures after reading the book Lines that Wiggle. Currently, we are celebrating the arrival of fall by learning about the artist, Paul Cezanne, and creating our very own apple still life. They are looking good enough to eat!

Welcome Back

Welcome back Washington Center Seagulls! We are all looking forward to watching your soar this year. In addition to all of the new and exciting art we will create, we have created an Art Club! In the Art Club, students will get to explore even more creative ways to create.

Finishing Touches

The end of the year is quickly approaching. Our artwork is getting the final touches before we close up our portfolios. It has been quite a memorable year, beginning with art on a cart and finishing up in the art room. Thank you to all of our students and their families for for your trust and patience as we navigated through this new type of school year. While I am sad the school year is coming to a close, I am hopeful for some normalcy next year! Have a wonderful summer!
