Art class aims to explore the Visual Arts through discussion, hands-on practice, and instruction while fostering appreciation for various media, artistic perspectives, and art history. The course encourages students to make meaningful visual art connections beyond the classroom setting.

Google Classroom in the Art Room
Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. You will then photograph your work using your chromebook camera and turn it in through Google Classroom for a grade.
I will only grade assignments submitted properly through Google Classroom.
The student resource tab on this website has instructions on how to photograph your work to upload to Google Classroom.

Optional: If students in the 8th Grade Art 1 high school credit class want to buy a sketchbook (around 9 x 12 inches in size) they can, however, it is not a requirement. They can use the DIY manilla folder sketchbooks that other art levels use.
Optional: Students may bring additional supplies such as pens, a glue stick, etc. from home and keep them in their backpack, pencil pouch, etc.

All grading is based upon a rubric that is based upon the learning target / objective of the assignment. Students will be aware of the rubric before, during, and after working on their assignment.

Assignments and Units:
*Each course may change to adjust schedules or classes.
Art Grades 6-8: Each week will have a central focus, such as a material (clay), an element of art (shape), an artist (Frida Kahlo), an art movement (Pop art), or art from a specific area and time period (Ancient Egypt).
Example: During a week focusing on line, 6th grade may make Zentangles, 7th grade may make large, group neurographic artworks, and 8th grade may make contour line drawings. Each grade level is focusing on line, but at an age appropriate skill level.
