About Us

Mrs. Clay

Originally from Westminster, South Carolina, I attended Clemson University and majored in Secondary English. I then began my teaching career at Pickens High School where I taught English I and coached the girls’ soccer team. After four years, I transitioned to the Pickens County Alternative School to teach both middle and high school English. While there, I also operated as the instructional coach and literacy specialist.

In addition to reading dystopian fiction and hiking outdoors, I enjoy spending time with my dogs and traveling whenever possible.

Mrs. Hennicken

I'm Daisha Hennicken, and I am originally from Monroe, MI. My husband, Paul, and I moved to South Carolina in 2003. We have 3 sons: Charlie, 7; Finn, 5; Jackson, 2. I earned a BA in English and a BE in Adolescent Education from the University of Toledo in Ohio, and I earned my Masters in the Teaching of English from Columbia University in New York City.

I have taught at Wade Hampton since 2003 with a brief hiatus when my first children were born. During my first go-round at WHHS I spent time as the Student Council advisor, JV Volleyball coach, and English department chair.

Outside of school I enjoy reading, travel, and sports.
