Assessment Procedures/Grading Scale

Reading Skills check will be given approximately every four weeks. The tests will be a combination of multiple choice items with a corresponding cold read. Each week a vocabulary using context clues and questions using reading strategies taught in class will be given over the story read in class during our Shared Reading time. Skills check as well as checkups will be announced on Remind and written in student agendas.


Grade Percentage Standard

A 90 – 100 Excellent 

B 80 – 89 Above average

C 70 – 79 Average

D 60 – 69 Below average

U 59 and below Failing

Grades for reading will be determined using, quizzes/ checkups (minor), and tests / skills check (major).

Language Arts will include writing skills, spelling, and grammar. Grades for Language Arts will be based upon Spelling checkups, grammar, (minor) and two writing papers (major) per quarter. 


Procedures for Non-Instructional Routines

The school day will begin with students getting materials settled, completing and checking morning work assignments, and giving attention to announcements. Recess will be given to the class each day. There will be a twenty-five minute lunch period. The end of the day activities will include; room jobs, packing up to go home, class announcements, and dismissal of students.

Communication with Parents

Teacher will communicate on a daily basis through the Remind application. Results of student work will be sent home weekly in the student’s communication folder. Parents may follow student’s progress on the Portal. Student progress will also be reported through mid-quarter progress reports and end of quarter report cards. Phone calls, emails, notes, Portal, agendas, and conferences will be used to communicate with each other regarding student achievement and behavior. 


Visitor Policy

You are welcome to visit your child at school during lunch time. Please understand the importance of your child’s privacy and why I won’t discuss their progress or concerns during lunchtime. It is also very important that instructional time is not interrupted. You may contact me anytime through e-mail, phone calls, or notes sent to me with your child. I will get back to you ASAP.
