Course Content
English 4 offers a survey of British, world, and modern literature. The textbooks are HMH: Into Literature, Grade 12, Volumes 1 and 2, as well as Grammar Practice, Grade 12, all available online and in print. I will also post pdf copies of the assignment for students to access.
This course includes an introduction to rhetoric and composition, including a review of grammar as it influences meaning and style, as well as the production of major research projects and essays.
Students will be doing a great amount of reading and writing.
Almost all of the reading will be done outside class, while most of the writing will be done inside class. Major works may include Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, Pride and Prejudice, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Animal Farm, 1984, Dracula, Frankenstein, selections from Canterbury Tales, and Pygmalion. Students will access and submit the majority of their assignments via Google Classroom.
Students will receive digital and/or printed copies of major works.
Class materials: pen. pencil, binder, notebook paper, 3" x5" notecards, and 3-ring binder.
