DP Diploma
The Diploma Programme Curriculum
The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups.
Made up of three required components, the DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
The three core elements are:
Theory of knowledge, in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.
The extended essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
Creativity, activity, service, in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.

There are different courses within each subject group. Woodmont High School currently offers the following IB courses:
Biology HL (Group 4)
Chemistry HL (Group 4)
English A Language and Literature HL (Group 1)
History of the Americas HL (Group 3)
Math Applications SL (Group 5)
Music SL (Group 6)
Music HL (Group 6)
Psychology SL (Group 3 or Group 6)
Psychology HL (Group 3 or Group 6)
Spanish B SL (Group 2)
French B SL (Group 2)
Theatre SL (Group 6)
Theatre HL (Group 6)
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
Visual Arts SL (Group 6)
Visual Arts HL (Group 6)
Diploma candidates take 3 or 4 courses at HL (higher level) and the remaining courses at SL (standard level). Student must take a total of 6 courses. HL courses are two years, while SL are one year courses except for Languages (Spanish and French).
