Human Geography

Course Description: The focus of Human Geography includes an understanding of the Earth’s physical and human systems, the importance of regions and the impact of culture and population changes. Based on the South Carolina Social Studies standards, the course is organized around the study of the regions of the world. Critical thinking will be emphasized, with special attention to developing spatial thinking skills and competency related to place, population, culture, regions, movement across space, economic geography and human-environment interaction. Students will learn how to collect, organize and interpret spatial data, to construct and interpret maps, mental maps and geographic models to solve problems, and to use geo-spatial technologies.
