Syllabus
Course Goals: The primary goal of the ESOL program is to improve English communication skills. This includes instruction and practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The secondary goal of ESOL is to support core content classes: ELA, Science, Math and Social Studies.
Instructional Procedures:
Students will work in various settings. These include direct instruction and active learning through individual, peer, or group work.
Participation: Learning a language takes practice and the best practice is to listen with both ears and to use the target language- speaking whenever possible. Active participation in speaking exercises is vital to the success of learning a new language.
Instructional strategies: Students will learn through various strategies such as TPR (total physical response), visual aids, listening and speaking activities, role-playing, reading easy to read novels, writing activities, Duolingo, and Rosetta Stone.
Assessment and Grading Policy: 50% major grades (3 per nine weeks), 50% Minor Grades (min. 8) The ESOL teacher will confer with the classroom teacher about progress.

A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 50-59
Our Class Rules:
Be polite to everyone and to the teacher. No laughing at "mistakes"! We're all learning!
Be on time and participate in class. Use the restroom between classes.
No eating, chewing gum, or cellphones in class.
Keep chromebooks charged every day.
