A student must earn 24 units of credit distributed as follows:
English: 4 Units
Mathematics: 4 Units
Science: 3 Units
US History: 1 Unit
Economics: 1/2 Unit, US Government: 1/2 Unit
Other Social Studies: 1 Unit
Physical Education or ROTC: 1 Unit
Computer Science: 1 Unit
Foreign Language or CATE Class: 1 Unit
Electives: 7 Units
In addition to completing the courses required to graduate from high school, students who want to apply to public 4 year colleges in SC should also take the following courses:
2-3 years of a foreign language
3 lab sciences
1 fine arts credit
1 math beyond Algebra 2 (ex. PreCalculus, Algebra 3, Statistics, etc.)
Universities may vary in what classes they require students to complete in high school. We recommend students research which high school classes are required if they are planning on applying to highly selective universities or out of state colleges.
