Greensburg Community High School Library Media Center Policies
Students coming to the library from seminar or a class must utilize the SmartPass system. SmartPass requests should be sent to Mrs. Mangels for approval. Approval is based on library availability and student grades/missing assignment status. When the student arrives in the library, he/she should sign in at the desk and expect to stay in the library for the remainder of the block.
Students should be quiet and respectful while in the library.
Students may check out up to two books at one time. Books are due 3 weeks from the date of check-out, and can be renewed as many times as needed as long a hold from another student has not been placed on the book. Students may not check out another book if he/she has an overdue book.
Students are responsible for all material checked out under his/her name. If lost, the student will be required to pay the replacement cost of the lost item. Therefore, do not loan a library book to a friend.
We are a fine-free library, however, students who have books that are overdue more than one month are subject to assignment to PAC or Wednesday school. Overdue notices are sent weekly to student seminars or English classes.
If a book in the library collection is not available, a student may ask to put a “hold” on that book. The librarian or library assistant will save the book for the student as soon as it is returned. Students receive notifications of available holds in their seminar or English class.
Helpful Hints
Fiction (made-up) books are arranged by genre.
Nonfiction (true) books are arranged by subject. Each subject is assigned a Dewey number.
Mrs. Mangels and Mrs. Himes are happy to help you find a book! If you know the specific title or author, we can look it up. If you just need help finding something to read, they can recommend books based on your interests and prior reading preferences.
