The Green Local Schools World Language Department is dedicated to helping students become global citizens who possess the crucial 21st Century college- and career-readiness skills of communication in other languages and cross-cultural understanding. In order to foster independent growth, teachers facilitate student learning in all levels with authentic resources which go beyond grammar and vocabulary to develop critical thinking skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing. When students take responsibility for their understanding of languages and cultures, they commit to being life-long, goal-oriented learners who can communicate effectively in a global society. Willingness to take risks and accept the ambiguity of language is a tenet of the classroom experience, as teachers create opportunities for students to achieve the benchmarks of each level of proficiency. Ultimately, we believe that to study another language and culture is to add multiple dimensions to one’s education and we are committed to helping each student recognize and strengthen these connections.
