Band Camp/Uniform Fees for Freshmen/New Members is $315. Returning Members $275. Fees are due Wednesday August 1st, 2018
SUMMER REHEARSALS TUESDAY, JULY 24, 2018
The first full summer band rehearsal is scheduled for Tuesday, July 24th, 2018 from 9am to noon in the high school band room. This is the first full band practice and we will continue to rehearse each day after this date Monday through Friday. We will begin with sight-reading some of our new marching music and then continuing outdoors with marching fundamentals. Please wear gym shoes to march in.
All summer band practices will be held in the Green High School band room. Please use door number 4 or 5 to enter. The doors are usually open one-half hour before practices and will remain open one-half hour after each practice. Try to have your transportation worked out in advance of the band rehearsals and performances.
All band rehearsals & performances are mandatory; however, we know there will be some circumstances that are unavoidable. If you are aware of a conflict with a particular rehearsal or especially a performance, please fill out an excused absence form and send it in to the high school band office. Our band’s secretary will keep track of daily attendance. In the case of an emergency, you can always call the high school band office (330-896-7530) or email a director (email@example.com).
If you are a member of our percussion section, there are mandatory marching percussion sectionals scheduled from
9am – 12pm, July 16th – July 20th. This will allow the section enough time to become familiar with marching percussion and learn some of our new cadences. Students are asked to pack a lunch.
SQUAD LEADERS/SECTION LEADERS/BAND OFFICERS MONDAY, JULY 23rd, 2018
We are planning to meet with all of our squad leaders, section leaders, and band officers on Monday, July 23rd, 2018, from 9:00am – 3:00pm. Lunch will be provided. We will use this time for leadership training. Please bring your instruments and come prepared to march outdoors as well. Thank you for your cooperation.
All band members will receive our school songs packet. Please work on the music over the summer. We will memorize most of the marching music as the season progresses. If you practice a little at a time you won’t feel quite so overwhelmed throughout the marching season. There is always someone available to help you so please do not panic. All of our music is copied for you and it is disposable at the end of our marching season. Parts have been assigned to help balance the sound on the field. Do not switch parts unless you are told to do so by a director. You are also required to have a lyre and flip folder. If you lost your lyre and flip folder from 8th grade another can be purchased at any music store.
MARCHING BAND INSTRUMENTS
We will provide the marching percussion, sousaphones, flugabones,(baritones) mellophones,(french horns) and a tenor saxophones.
All school-owned instruments will be distributed at the first band rehearsal. Once the instruments are given to you, you are responsible for the care & maintenance of the instruments. You must oil valves and keep slides in good working order. You may be billed for damage to the instrument if you are found to be neglecting the instrument. If you play a double reed instrument and you need a marching band instrument, please contact your current band director immediately.
WHITE IMPACT MARCHING BAND SHOES
All marching band members will need to purchase a pair of white marching band shoes during the summer. The white impact shoes can be purchased through Taylor Band & Orchestra. The music store is located at 2526 Wedgewood Drive, Akron, Ohio, 44312, in Ellet. Their phone number is (330) 733-4131. Incoming freshmen will be fitted for shoes.
SUMMER BAND UNIFORM
All Marching Band Members need a summer band shirt and black shorts. The summer band uniform will be used for different performances throughout the year. Our uniform committee is responsible for ordering these shirts and shorts for all band members and payment will be due this summer. The shirts and shorts will be distributed when you receive your full band uniform.
BAND CAMP SUNDAY – FRIDAY, AUGUST 5th-10th, 2018
Our Band Camp will begin Sunday, August 5th, and continue through Friday, August 10th, 2018. We will provide transportation to and from the camp. Camp Muskingum is located at 3266 Dyewood Road, SW. Carrolton, OH, 44615. The camp’s website is www.ffacamp.com. The camp is located on Leesville Lake. The band members absolutely love the camp and we hope that you will enjoy the activities that are provided for you. We will have an indoor dance, an outdoor dance, and a bonfire. In addition to our practice schedule students will have free time. Free time activities include swimming, basketball courts, tennis, tetherball and boating with canoes.
The camp is chaperoned by our band parents and we will have a registered nurse on duty at all times. There will be additional music staff working with the marching band members. The camp is structured to provide the optimal amount of rehearsal time on and off the field. For many band members, their band camp experience is one of their most memorable. It is hard to describe the joy and excitement of working in a large group, learning music and putting the first halftime show together. As the band members become more acquainted with each other, friendships develop between all the grade levels. Freshmen students start the year with many new friends even before the first day of school. We are looking forward to another great week with an outstanding group of students.
BAND CAMP FAMILY NIGHT AUGUST 10th, 2018 4:30pm, GHS MEMORIAL STADIUM
We will be returning from band camp Friday afternoon, August 10th, 2018, at 4:30pm. Our buses will unload in the stadium parking lot. The students will unload their equipment and march into the stadium to perform their first halftime performance of the year! Following the band’s performance, you may pick up your luggage and go home.
