This summer, the 2021 interns (Aaron, Deitriq, Kevin) along side their mentor (Jasmine) worked at the Malden Court Orchard, volunteered at the Tool Library, and most importantly gave back to the community. .
Located at 7677 SE 87th AVE the Orchard not only serves as a food forest but also a bridge for the community to bond. Every 3rd Saturday, the orchard holds a work party where everyone is invited. During the summer, we would occasionally weed the orchard, visit different pollinator habitat, and plan for the mural event.
Located at 9215 SE Ramona St. We reorganized the tool library and spent our time maintaining to upkeep its impact on improving the community it serves.
Located at 7677 SE 87th Ave. Community members were invited to collaborate on a huge painting. The paintings included native plants that can be found in the orchard.
The garden swap happens on every 3rd Sunday of the month. It is held at the tool library (2nd box) and the main purpose of the garden swap is help people in the community to interact with each other without them being together. An example would be, one person would bring a plant that they have grown and swap it with another plant that they like. This chain would continue throughout the time it's open and by the end of the day there are different varieties of plants at the tool library.
Work parties are held at the Malden Court Community Orchard. These work parties occur every 3rd saturday of every month and help guide community members through garden tasks.
The Green Ring serves as a basic outline about the Green Lents community. There are brochures available at the tool library marking a variety of public and free resources available to the people. There are tool libraries, book libraries, food pantry and more. The trail is also used in our bike marathon where people come together and bike around the trail.
