This summer, the 2021 interns (Aaron, Deitriq, Kevin) along side their mentor (Jasmine) worked at the Malden Court Orchard, volunteered at the Tool Library, and most importantly gave back to the community.
Meet the 2021 Interns
Deitriq Flores

Hey yall! My name is Deitriq. I go to Reynolds High School and this is my first year on the green lents internship. My hobbies include, playing video games, rapping Nicki Minaj and trying to master Mariah Carey riffs. This internship helped me branch out connect more to my community. Green Lents pushed me to do things for the first time like canvassing, voluntering at the tool library and helping tend to a whole orchard. I joined this internship cause enviornmental justice is very important to me. I was able to help upkeep sustainable resources like the Tool Library which only houses electric tools and the Malden Court Community orchard which has a plethora of fruit-bearing plants. I wont forget the memories that Ive created with my friends.

Hi everyone, I am Aaron Vuong. One of the three interns for Green Lents during the summer of 2021. I attend David Douglas High School. I learned about the LYI program through my sister. This is my first year being apart of the program and it has been an amazing experience. Some of my hobbies include playing video games, listening to music, and collecting vinyls. This internship was a great gateway for my adventure into learning more about environmental justice. My favorite part of the program was catching dragonflies and damselflies because I was brought out of my comfort zone and interacted with bugs that I would never thought of getting near in my daily life.
Kevin Tran

Hello, my name is Kevin Tran. I'm going to my senior year at Reynold High School. This is my first time in the LYI program and I heard it from Aaron. So far, I have been enjoying working outside at the orchard and doing my tool library shifts. I'm close to the other interns and it's made my experience a lot more fun. Outside of the internship, my hobbies are playing video games, watching movies, and working with computers. LYI has taught me to be better at talking to people I don't know and learn about the plants in the environment.
