Virtual Learning

Letter from Superintendent Ross

Dear Heatly families,

We learned many lessons being remote in the spring. From those lessons, there will be a shift in the structure, schedule and expectations of students moving into the new school year. I would like to emphasize that any students who may, or will be, enrolled in a remote learning model will be required to attend their assigned classes as their in-person peers but just virtually. For example, if you have a student in grades 7-12 and it is either their remote day or they are participating in the Full Remote Learning model for the marking period, they must log into the live teaching lesson as scheduled. Meaning, if your child has Math period one at 8 a.m., they will need to be present virtually every instructional day at 8 a.m. Teachers will be taking daily attendance of their in-person students as well as their Full Remote Learners.

There are many unknowns with the upcoming school year and we will do our best to answer your questions. Our website, www.greenisland.org, is being updated frequently as things continue to change. I encourage you to visit it frequently to stay up to date on the latest information. The website currently has the district’s reopening plan, a reopening updates and information page and a reopening FAQ.

Please check your information in SchoolTool
This year, we will be communicating frequently with all of our families and new information becomes available. We are switching to a new messaging system, SchoolMessenger, in the coming weeks. This will allow us to send emails, phone calls and/or text messages to families. All of the contact information will be pulled directly from SchoolTool. Your cell phone must be listed in the cell phone field. Additionally, all phone numbers need to include your area code.

Included in this packet is a sheet from SchoolTool that shows the information we currently have on file for your student(s). Please review this sheet and email alegault@greenisland.org or call (518) 273-1422 ext. 9 as soon as possible if any contact information needs to be updated.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school or email reopening@greenisland.org.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Ross
Superintendent of Schools
