All potential acts of HIB can be reported to any teacher or staff member in the building, who will then report the incident to Mr. Bollette or Ms. Stiles
Mr. Bollette or Mrs. Stiles will inform parents of all students involved in the alleged incident
Students may report HIB anonymously via the locked box outside the school counselor’s office
Principal does NOT have discretion as to whether or not to investigate bullying allegations. All allegations of harassment, intimidation, or bullying must be investigated under the HIB policy.
Investigation will be initiated by the principal or designee within one school day of the verbal report
Investigation will be conducted by the anti-bullying specialist (Mrs. Stiles) in consultation with the principal
Parents of victim and accused will be notified of investigation
Parental permission is not required to interview students
Principal may appoint additional personnel to assist with investigation
Students may be asked to provide written statements at time of interview (if age appropriate)
Investigation shall be completed as soon as possible, but not later than 10 school days from date of written report
If additional information relevant to the investigation is not received within 10 school days, anti-bullying specialist may amend original report to reflect the information
Results will be reported to the superintendent within two days of completing the investigation
Results will be reported to the board of education no later than the date of the next board meeting following the completion of the investigation, along with information on action taken or recommended by superintendent
Parents of students involved will receive written notification of the outcome
At the next BOE meeting following its receipt of the report, the board shall issue a decision, in writing, to affirm, reject, or modify the superintendent’s decision.
Due to privacy laws, parents may only receive information about their own child
A parent may request a hearing before the BOE
Request must be made no later than 60 calendar days of receipt of written notice of outcome of investigation
Must be held within 10 days of request
BOE shall meet in executive session for the hearing
BOE may hear from school anti-bullying specialist about the incident, recommendations for discipline or services, or programs instituted
