Below are some key reminders for the 24-25 school year
No matter how difficult, every student that enters your room deserves us to treat them with respect, love them, nurture them, and push them daily. Building positive relationships with our students and families builds the foundation for a great school year. Please get to know your students personally and what makes them tick. It is unreasonable to ask for you to learn all 100 plus students, but between your group of 4, all students should have one staff member they have a strong relationship with. It takes all of us, including encore, instructional support, front office staff, admin, SRO, etc.
Please take the time to look through the handbook. A few bullet points to remember are below:
-All staff is to be here by 7:30 (if not, you need to communicate with Mr. Cook)
-All staff is required to attend their scheduled meetings (even coaches)
-At all times, we need to be making decisions that impact our students.
-Confidentially of students' information is a must.
-Coming prepared daily is essential.
This year we will have the following meetings. Please mark your calendar accordingly, as attendance is mandatory.
-1st Monday of the month is the faculty meeting
-2nd Monday of the month is Leadership
-3rd Monday of the month is Committees
-4th Monday of the month is dedicated to Professional Development
*All meetings will begin at 3:15 and end by 4:15. Coaches will need to work with their assistant coach for coverage (gamedays will be excused absences). Most months you will only have two meetings (Faculty and Committee)
All staff will need to join one of the following committees (PBIS, SEL, MTSS, SunShine, Resilience, Parent and Family Engagement). A signup sheet is located in the committee folder above.
Every Thursday, we will meet during planning for PLT purposes. These meetings will surround student data and help us form plans to meet their needs best. It will also be a time to share resources, problem-solve, and discuss next steps. I've attached the PLT schedule above.
Knowing what has the biggest impact on our students will help to grow them and meet their needs. Take a look at some of the highest-yielding instructional practices and think about how we can add those to our daily lessons. As you see Collective efficacy is the highest and something we have talked about this year. Working together for the common good of our students has a huge impact on them!
Transitions are a time when clear expectations are needed for students. It is also a time when we need to be visible. Please make sure that you are doing the following during the day: standing at your door at arrival and during transitions, walking students all the way to encore, and taking your class to the bathroom. Extra staff will be monitoring the halls during transition periods to limit unwanted behaviors but also to be a support.
Below are the most common phone calls I receive.
Grades have not been put in since last month. - Update grades weekly
Something happened with my child today, but no teacher called me- Call parents!
I did not know there was a test this week. My first response is, are you signed up for messages from your teacher? If they are, I then look at your Remind account. Please send our weekly newsletters!
