Social and Emotional Learning at GCSD

Welcome to Greenburgh Central School District's Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Website.

Our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) efforts throughout the district are rooted in the notion that people are multi-dimensional and complex beings. Our definition of education is that academic social and emotional learning are not separate entities, but rather interconnected to educate the whole student. Emerging and innovative educational research shows that to enrich the academic lives of students, we need to teach all members of our community about their emotional intelligence too. At GCSD, we accomplish this by using the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and the IB Learner Profiles as our school district's SEL framework. Our Social and Emotional Learning Standards focus on developing and nurturing the following skills with our students: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.

We intend to fully support the district's mission statement, which is to...

...empower members of our community to lead purposeful lives with integrity, cultivate a spirit of discovery, and embrace connections in our diverse, global society.
