Students will color each section with a different texture plate.

These will be hung in the foyer to create a beautiful art installation for the Art Show.

They will place that heart in the middle of the paper. Using black paint, they will paint brush strokes from inside the cut heart to the painted paper all the way around. This will leave the outline of the heart once the cut paper is removed.

These will then be put together on the schoolwide bulletin board.

Activity: Students will watch the YouTube video over Jim Dine. After discussing his artwork and what Pop Art is, students will create their own heart painting inspired by his work. We will used liquid tempera paint to paint short brush strokes of different colors in random order to cover the entire paper. Then they will cut out a printed heart. They will place that heart in the middle of the paper. Using black paint, they will paint brush strokes from inside the cut heart to the painted paper all the way around. This will leave the outline of the heart once the cut paper is removed.

These will be hung in the foyer to create a beautiful art installation for the Art Show.

This will leave the outline of the heart once the cut paper is removed.

Afterwards, they will do the Roll-A-Picasso activity to create their own Picasso inspired cubist portrait.

The goal will be to use colors for each pattern that will have large contrast, so the heart will show up better.

Activity: We will watch the Brainpop Jr. video over Pablo Picasso. (See link below.) Then we will look at several of Picasso's cubist portraits and discuss the details and what makes them a cubist painting. Afterwards, I will explain to students how to do the Roll A Picasso activity. They will be given game papers and dice. They will roll a number and match it to the given shape on their paper. They will then draw that shape for the different facial features. At the end, they will color and finish their cubist portrait.

We will glue the rocket to the top of white paper and then draw a variety of lines coming from the bottom of the rocket. We will trace the lines with different colors of chalk and smudge with a tissue to produce a smoke effect so the rocket looks like it is "blasting off!"
