Salutations! I am Joy Coffey and this is my 20th year in education. I have spent the last 10 years serving as the College/Career Readiness Counselor. I split my workday between the high school and the Green County Area Technology Center. I absolutely love my profession and enjoy serving the students of Green County. What I enjoy most about education is the opportunity to work with students and learn more about them and their passions.
I began my teaching career here at Green County High School in 2005. I have taught Biology, U.S. History, World Civilization, Integrated Social Studies, Advanced Topics in Math, and Yearbook.
I was born in Houston, TX, and had the opportunity to live in a number of states. While I am not a native of Green County I take great pride in calling it home. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Criminology. In 2008 I completed a Masters of Art in Special Education at Campbellsville University.
My husband Brian and I live in the Little Barren community. We have two daughters- Anna a junior at UK, Dayni a freshman at Green County, and a son, River who started preschool this year. We celebrated our 22nd anniversary this past summer! We have two Australian Shepherds, Scout (13 years old), Baby (1 year old) and two cats- Blanche and Pie.
Away from work I enjoy traveling with my family, reading, listening to music, kayaking on the river, eating unique foods, and gardening. My family and I enjoy visiting national parks, hiking and exploring the world. We have a goal to visit all national parks and states. Currently we have visited 26 national parks and 46 states.
My husband Brian and I enjoying a hike in North Dakota.
A spectacular view of Avalanche Lake, nestled in Glacier National Park, Montana.
Summer 2022, my family and I went on a 16 day roadtrip that took us over 5,500 miles.
Shafer Trail is a dirt road that connects Arches National Park in Moab, Utah to Canyonlands National Park in Utah. This was a beautiful but intense drive.
We hiked The Narrows for 5 1/2 hours in Zion National Park. The hike is in a canyon with walls that are thousands of feet high. The majority of the hike is in water. An absolutely breathtaking hike and one of my all time favorites.
Dayni, Anna, River and Brian are my why. My family is very special to me. I value family time and enjoy when we are able to be together.
