Today was the last day for 8th grade students in GSP!! After Christmas break, they will have a writing class in place of GSP. We celebrated our last day together by playing board games. I sure will miss these guys!!
The Academic Team is off to a great season!! They will compete in the District Governor's Cup on Saturday, January 15.
Students participated in a gallery walk today! At each exhibit, students answered questions about the data displayed in a scatter plot.

Today 7th grade students celebrated Pi Day in GSP!!! We celebrated by eating circular foods, competing in "pi" themed contests, and discovering "pi" by measuring the circumference and diameter of circles.
Students played "dominoes" today while learning about the Angle Sum Theorem.
Today students participated in a chalk talk. Chalk talks are silent discussion where everyone shares their ideas by writing them on the board. Check out what they came up with!
Students worked in their cooperative groups to solve word problems using the Pythagorean theorem. Each group then used an iPad or iPhone to scan the QR codes and check their work. These kids are Pythagorean theorem experts!

Today in GSP, students used Cheese-itz to explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem.
We will have our first unit test on August 30, 2018.
The study guide is due on August 29, 2018. Students will receive 5 bonus points if they have a parent/guardian sign their study guide. The students will receive approximately 20 minutes in class to work on the study guide and may need to finish it at home.
Students used plastic plates today to discover the "rules" for rotating figures.
We are nearing the end of our circles unit. In order to show what they know, 7th grade students made anchor charts today. Their anchor charts will be hanging in the classroom for them to use as a visual resource for the remainder of the unit.

Recently, we have been studying types of angles. Today, 7th graders went on a scavenger hunt. They had to set up and solve two step equations to find the missing angle measures.
This week students have been discussing biased and unbiased questions and studying populations and samples. Today, students discussed 20 different scenarios and categorized them as unbiased or biased.
Where has January went??? This has been a crazy month with our many snow days and I have not taken the time to post pictures of my 7th graders learning new things. Since we have returned from Christmas we have been focusing on a Statistics unit. Checkout these pictures of our students collecting, representing, and analyzing data.

Today in GSP students went on a Scavenger Hunt. In order to move from one destination to the other, students had to determine and apply the appropriate volume formulas to use.
Students were given 30 minutes of in class time to complete their study guide. If they did not finish it is homework. The study guide is due TOMORROW, 10/31/17.

7th and 8th grade students traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky and visited Jackson's Orchard. Everyone had a great time and the weather was beautiful!

Students were given a study guide on Thursday 9/7. The study guide is to be completed and turned in on Monday 9/11. Students may have a parent/guardian sign their paper and receive 5 bonus points on their quiz grade. The students will be given their study guide back in class on Monday so they can study it overnight.
In teams of 3 or 4, students completed 20 task cards today using their knowledge of Transformations. They used a QR reader on the iPads to get immediate feedback.
Students were given a study guide on Thursday 8/24. The study guide is to be completed and turned in on Friday 8/25. The students will be given their study guide back in class on Friday so they can have it for the weekend to study.
In class today, students participated in a guided discovery activity. Students were able to discover the rotation rules on their own!
Today we viewed the #2017SolarEclipse from GCMS front lawn. We celebrated the day with Moon Pies and Capri Suns.
Today is #TransformationTuesday in GSP!! Students are creating a foldable to represent four different transformations: translation, rotation, reflection, and dilation.
