In the mid 1950's it became clear a new school was needed to be built for the south side of Greece, and by 1957, ground was broken for the new school.

As the south side of town continued its population boom, Olympia welcomed its first students in 1959, and graduated its first class in 1961.

In the late 90's, the district realized that Olympia needed some upgrades. Olympia received new science rooms, a new lettered wing, and Olympia was built a brand new media center. Along with a state of the art library, the new media center contained a radio and television studio. The district moved the radio station, jazz 90.1 to Olympia, and worked to make Olympia a school that would become a hub of media sciences.
In 2018, a Greece Olympia technology teacher and media specialist JC launched the Spartan News Show. This was the first ever, live broadcast, student run television programming in the history of not only Olympia, but the entire Greece Central School District. JC built from the ground up a crew, on air talent, a stable format, and a lasting impact on the start of each day at Olympia.
The Early Days of the Show
Some of the first shows were hosted by teachers as the crew was being built, and technical difficulties were not always taken in stride.
Different hosts circled through the early studio (library in the middle of classes) and even got some hosts that sang and danced during their hosting duties.
Although more of a radio feature, early shows even featured live call ins from teachers in the building if they forgot to drop off their announcement.
The Show Hits its Stride
Another staple of the show in the early 2020's was the famous Fleming sign off. To this day, students still end many of their conversations with Marc's catch phrase, "annnd we're out!"
COVID did everything it could to shut the show down, but the crew had other ideas. They worked together and figured out a way to keep the show live, fresh, and of course socially distant.
The Show Now and in the Future
The show continues to add amazing on-air talent as well as production talent. Things like on-screen photos and logos are commonplace to accompany our dynamic hosts.
The show now has different segments hosted by different reporters and different voice overs. As the show grows and evolves, so will the faces and voices of the show.
While trying new things like adding weather reports to the end of shows and trivia before, the show will always be looking to add new features or ways to get information out to the audience of Greece Olympia.
