Forest School is a highly valued part of our learning offer at Great Gaddesden.
We are delighted to provide frequent 'Forest School' opportunities for our pupils to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in the natural environment. Our beautiful rural setting gives us the opportunity to use our local environment for these sessions, in addition to our school grounds.
Our pupils take part in a range of inspirational activities from shelter building and woodland crafts, to cooking on open fires. Such experiences and supported risk, allows our children to become resilient, independent and creative learners.
We are lucky to have an enthusiastic qualified forest school practitioner on our staff team who delivers this provision with every class. In addition to these sessions, teachers are encouraged to take learning outside when possible.
Forest School sessions take place regularly, regardless of the weather! The school provide waterproof dungarees for all children and they bring their own waterproof coats and wellies.
"Leaders have established a rich culture in which adults make pupils’ spiritual development a priority. The forest school and reflection areas offer them rich opportunities to reflect and experience wonder" (SIAMS, 2025)
