By state law, Permanent Improvement funds only may be used to purchase items with a lifespan of five years or more. This includes building repairs, technology, textbooks, buses and facility needs. Permanent Improvement dollars do not pay for salaries. This levy was first passed in 1973 and has been renewed by Monroeville voters ten times since then.

A Renewal Levy allows the taxing district to keep a current levy on the books and collect the same amount of money as when the original levy was voted in. A Replacement Levy is voter approved to extend the term and conditions of an expiring levy by replacing the effective tax rate. It takes present day property valuations into consideration.

Property values have risen since the original Permanent Improvement Levy was passed in 1973. The school district will benefit from this replacement levy with the increase in property valuation over the last 44 years. When passed at the identical 1.8 mills, the replacement levy will increase revenue to the school district to support our facilities.

Currently, the PI Levy generates approximately $80,000 in funds to maintain the buildings and grounds. With the addition of the elementary wing and the athletic complex, the square footage of the school has increased significantly since 1973. The Replacement PI Levy will generate $192,000 annually to keep our building and grounds maintained.
