Three nights a week, sixteen students can be found in the library or the gym. They are not plotting world domination, unfortunately, but they are preparing for something else: to put on a show. The students are rehearsing their roles in The Addams Family, which will be offered November 22nd and 23rd.
“We’re on track, it’s going very well, very dedicated cast. We’re off book a month before the show, which is a good sign…I think it’s going to be a very good show,” Co-director Mr. McGee says.
“I think the play is going pretty well. Choreography is down almost, everything is pretty much done, we just need to get the final touches done,” says Nico Skinner. Nico plays Lurch in the play, which is a part that primarily involves grunting. Lurch does have a considerable amount of dancing, though. “There are a lot of dances where we have to dance in-sync,” he says.
Aside from just performance, actors enjoy the social aspect of rehearsal. Andrew Lee, who plays Ancestor #4, states that being in the play and practicing with everyone has helped him on a personal level. “It’s definitely helped me interact with people, because there are new people I’ve never met before…I think that’s really cool.”
Anna Weideman, who plays Uncle Fester, has a pretty big role with about four solo songs. She says that there are a lot of music cues in the play. “The cast dynamic is really good,” she says, noting that everyone is laughing because everyone has fun.
“It’s a pretty good creative outlet,” states Isaac Hanlin, who plays Gomez Addams. “I also just really enjoy playing characters and this character definitely suits what I’m good at when it comes to roleplaying characters…I feel drawn towards [these] types of characters.”
“I think it’s going to be our best show so far,” says Mr. McGee.
The audience will get the chance to weigh in on November 22nd at 7:00 PM or 23rd at 5:00 PM. The cost of tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students.
