Senior Isaac Parker has played many sports, such as soccer, basketball, hockey, and baseball. But the sport that has brought him the most success is soccer.
Isaac played soccer for 14 years. He played for a club called Elite and played in U10 as an 8-year-old. After leaving Elite, he played for IMX. He made the travel team and was U12 but played U14.
He enjoyed his time with the clubs except for his first tournament. In his first tournament, he recalls,” I got McDonalds for breakfast and during warmups, I threw up, and then I proceeded to pull my groin and couldn't play the rest of the tournament. It sucked even worse because we lost in the finals.”
Isaac also played indoor soccer for 8 years and enjoyed it the most in his early days. He enjoyed it because “they let us play off the walls but once we got older playing off the walls wasn't allowed anymore.” During COVID-19, IMX shut down and Isaac had a decision to make, he could either not play for a club or travel an hour and a half to Saratoga to play for the closest club. He decided not to play for any clubs because they were all too far away.
Isaac also plays basketball. He has never quite enjoyed playing basketball as much as soccer. He doesn't quite understand why he played it in the first place. ”I think one of the reasons I never enjoyed playing basketball as much is because I suck at 2K.”
He played AU basketball for 2 years and started high school basketball his sophomore year. When he was younger, he played in tournaments in Troy, NY, Hartford, CT, and ME. In New York, he played in Troy for some tournaments and hated them. In Hartford CT, he also had bad experiences. A coach tried to fight him and he was called some hateful words. However, he still enjoyed playing in Connecticut and Maine. He also played in 4 Zero Gravity tournaments. While they lost, Isaac still really enjoyed the experience of playing at that level.
As a kid, he would have played football if allowed by his dad who said “We are a soccer town,” so he ended up playing soccer. It ended up good though because in his senior year of high school, he made 1st team all SVL (South Vermont League) and he also played in senior classic BCSA.
If possible, Isaac wishes to play soccer in college but he says “It's pretty hard for a D4 kid from the middle of nowhere to get recruited.” Isaac has done his part by reaching out to some coaches. He wishes to hear back from them soon. “It's just always been a dream,” Isaac said.
