Sophomore Chase Allen Razanouski has a love for football, but could not pursue it at Proctor since they do not have a football team. He had to look at playing at a different school and landed on Otter Valley.
Since Chase doesn't attend Otter Valley, he doesn't have as much time as others to bond with his teammates but says that he enjoys the experience otherwise.
The Otter Valley Football team had an impressive season going 6-3 and ending as the 3rd seed but facing a painful loss 7-0 against Springfield, the 6th seed in the playoffs.
Going into the first playoff game, Chase said, “Hopes of a championship appearance were high from the season so far.” The Otters had been on a 6 game-winning streak, shredding through the competition with blowout after blowout.
“The condition of the games was awful. It was hard to see the ball through the thick rain hammering us, which made it impossible to complete a pass,” Chase says.
“However unexpected the loss might be, I have high hopes for the team next year…We are already planning on how to adapt to the loss of seniors and how to make things different next year.”
He thinks that next year will be different with being more comfortable and familiar with the coach, who was new this year. “We will have a tighter bond, and will be more like a family next year,” Chase says.
His love for football has stuck with him since he first started playing in second grade. His parents signed him up and forced him to play with his long-time friend Alex Reed with Rutland Pride Football.
For now, Chase is putting football on the back burner to focus on his basketball career. His goal here is to get 1000 points. So far he has 409 points in the middle of his sophomore year. In addition to football and basketball, Chase plays baseball in the spring.
