Proctor had their first matchup September 2nd, 2023, against Fair Haven at Taranovich Field. Unfortunately, the Slaters ended up winning this matchup in a 3-0 victory over the Phantoms.
Despite the loss, Senior Dylan Aker said he has “high Hopes for this team.” The Phantoms have many young players including sophomore goalie Aaron Brock. Proctor has four seniors graduating this upcoming spring: Carter Crossmon, Matt Nop, Dylan Aker, and Isaac Parker.
Fair Haven has a very young team as well with only two seniors. Junior: Jack Almeida scored the only first half goal in the game to make it 1-0 going into the second half. Junior Jace Hetrick then scored two second half goals to finalize the game for the Slaters. Senior goalie Noah Woodbury held a shutout holding the Phantoms to zero goals.
“ We played hard, they were just really nasty,”. Senior Captain Isaac Parker said after their loss. Fair Haven is a Division 3 school, while Proctor is division 4, so the Phantoms knew it was going to be a hard game.
After the game, The Jimmy T showcase recognizes one player for each team for the Players of the Game. For the Slaters Jace Hetrick won, and for the Phantoms it was Dylan Aker.
“Cool, I get a shirt, but we lost,” Dylan Aker said when he won player of the game for the Phantoms at the showcase games.
Now that the first game is officially over, the Phantoms are moving on and heading to Arlington on September, 14th at 7 pm under the lights.
Despite the tough loss, the team remains optimistic about the season. “Our goal this year is to make it past the first round and make it to Apple Jack Field holding up a trophy.” Isaac said.
