Obadiah Tate is a part of Proctor’s Rock Climbing team (Proctor Rock Climbing Phantoms) and is hyped for the upcoming indoor rocking climbing season.
The rock climbing season starts towards the end of November. Obadiah is a high level indoor climber who says his favorite part about rock climbing is “probably the climbing.” He sets the bar high with his season goal of “trying to get all 12’s.” Obadiah can comfortably complete all 11’s, so this goal for Obadiah is a step up in his game, and he is up for the task. Rock climbing ranks in difficulty 5.5-13 and grows by .5 depending on difficulty of the climb.
“I'm good but the rest of the team is bad,” Obadiah says pointing out that he is the main point scorer/best climber on his team. Last year the Phantoms had 7 climbers, 5 climbers is the minimum for a team to compete. He loves rock climbing, “it's fun, hurts and I get sore…It's like football!!”
Obadiah gets to do the thing he loves 1-2 times a week at Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in Rutland; this is where the Phantoms practice. The team has 6 competitions throughout the season leading up to the state championship in early March.
He will attempt to put his team on his back, and take the step up to all 12's this season. However, as a Junior he has 2 more seasons to reach this goal. Only time will tell if Obadiah reaches those dreams but his future in the sport is bright.
