On Friday, September 28, four Proctor students participated in The Vermont State University Castleton Honors Music Festival. They joined students from all over the state of Vermont and upstate New York.
The four freshmen chosen by Mrs. Papandrea were Isaac Hanlin (Baritone saxophone), Olivia Outslay (Flute), Jayda Perry (Alto saxophone), and Harrison Vingers (Trombone).
Although the concert was in the evening, the students arrived during the day. “We rehearsed all day. There were about 50 plus kids,” Jayda says, adding, “It was really fun and I enjoyed it. I really liked the music. The instructor was very nice.”
The students liked playing with a large group. “It was a lot louder and smoother,” Harrison says.
Olivia agreed,” It was really fun and a great experience.”
“I feel the concert went very well. The music was challenging and our Proctor Music students did a great job. I'm very proud of them!” Music Teacher Mrs. Papandrea said.
These four students have been playing their instruments for years. “I felt drawn to music because I thought it would be fun.” Isaac said. Harrison, Jayda, and Olivia come from families that are into music.
The next event for these four musicians and the rest of the Proctor Band is the Rutland Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 28, at 6:30 pm. You all should check it out!
