About the Chromebook

General Care

Always be careful when transporting the Chromebook. Avoid placing weight on the Chromebook. Additionally, never throw, toss, slide, or drop the device. Do not expose the Chromebook to extreme temperatures.

Battery Life

The Chromebook screen is the biggest draw on the battery. To help extend the life of the Chromebook battery, reduce the brightness on the screen and close it when not in use.

Watching videos and playing games use more battery than normal due to rapid screen refresh.

Screen

Never place heavy objects on top of the Chromebook. Never place a Chromebook in a book bag that contains food or liquid. Also, as a general rule, do not have food or liquids near your Chromebook. Moisture will cause damage.

Common Chromebook Issues

Issue: Websites locking up or assignments not showing up.

Solutions:

  1. Clear your cache and cookies (Click 3 dots on the top right, go to settings, scroll down to privacy and data, click “clear history, cache, cookies and more…” or use the shortcut- CTRL+Shift+Backspace

  2. Look at troubleshoot guide for website (The direct usually pops up when page fails to load for the first time).

  3. If the problem persists, contact Help Desk by filling out the Google Form which will allow you virtually meet on Zoom to solve your issue.


Issue: My mouse is not showing up

Solutions:

  1. Turn Chromebook off and on

  2. Press the power and refresh key at the same time to perform a hard reset to temporarily fix the mouse problem

  3. If the problem persists, contact Help Desk by filling out the Google Form which will allow you virtually meet on Zoom to solve your issue.

Issue: My WiFi is not seeming to connect?

Solutions:

Step 1. Click bottom right of the screen

Step 2. Check the WiFi connection via the menu

Step 3. Verify you are connected to the right network

Step 4. If the problem persists, contact Help Desk by filling out the Google Form which will allow you virtually meet on Zoom to solve your issue.

Issue: The keys on the keyboard aren’t the same as what is typed.

Solutions:

    1. Press Shift + Alt to set it back to US keyboard.

or

    1. Check keyboard settings

    2. Click the bottom-right menu

    3. Click on the gear icon in the menu that appears

    4. In settings, scroll down until you reach the language and input tab and click on it

    5. Scroll down to input method and make sure that US keyboard, or your preferred keyboard is selected

    6. If it is not listed, select manage input methods and find the desired keyboard

    7. If the problem persists, contact Help Desk by filling out the Google Form which will allow you virtually meet on Zoom to solve your issue.

Issue: The image on the home screen has been rotated.

Solution:

  1. Press CTRL + Shift + reload/refresh

  2. This will rotate the screen 90 degrees each time it is pressed.

Issue: Page not loading

Solution:

  1. Try the refresh key

Issue: I get a black screen when I try to enter my Zoom meeting. It says it is waiting for the host to start the meeting. I cannot exit the Zoom window. I have to exit the tab. When I go to make next Zoom class it sends me to my last class to wait for the host. How do you get to my current Zoom meeting?

Solution: Restart your Chromebook or sign out and then back into your Chromebook. This should allow you to get into your Zoom.
