Scholarship Handbook
Total value of the award is $1,000.00 to be distributed to one successful high school graduate entering post-secondary education in a chosen healthcare profession, who attended high school in the area served by the Brooks & District Health Foundation (Brooks, Duchess or Rosemary)
FOUR Scholarships of $1000 each. For graduating Grasslands School Division students, entering a post-secondary program at an accredited post-secondary school, who are children of past or present teachers of the Grasslands School Division within the past 5 years.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of our grandfather Robert "Bud" Trimmer Sr. by Dr. Kenton Rommens and Dr. Ashley Rommens who both graduated from Grasslands Public Schools.
This award is based on exemplary service to the community and/or school. The award will be presented annually to a graduate of any high school in the County of Newell who is planning to attend a post-secondary institution/program.
The primary criteria shall be financial need. This need will be determined by criteria established by the Alberta Government Student Finance Board.
The primary criteria for the Brooks and Retired Teachers’ Scholarship will be a student graduating from a Grasslands Regional Division High School. They must be registered at a post-secondary institution, where another system-wide award has been achieved, and an individual with diverse interests and talents with a record of community and/or extracurricular involvement.
The Kiwanis scholarship shall be presented to a graduating from a public High School within the County of Newell planning to attend a post-secondary institution and has demonstrated financial need.
Recipients of the Excellence Awards for School Improvement are nominated by the Teaching Staff of BCHS. The Excellence Award is based on students who have shown significant improvement in academic marks, work habits and/or attitude.
The LifeTouch Humanities Award will be presented to the students who have the highest average in Social and English combined. The marks for this award will be determined by using the blended mark in their diploma exam courses.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Lloyd Colbens. The award will be given to a deserving student who plans to study Agriculture at a college or university.

The Collister Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a graduating BCHS student who is attending any post-secondary institution. The student must be deemed to be deserving of this scholarship by their dedication in contributing to a positive school climate at BCHS.
The scholarship shall be presented to a BCHS student, who has graduated in June, will be attending any post-secondary institution in the fall and who has demonstrated financial need. The money is to be used to assist with tuition and other educational costs.
The award shall be made available annually to a Brooks Composite High School graduate planning to attend a post-secondary institution to pursue studies in Kinesiology, Education (in P.E.), or any area field relating to recreation, such as recreation management, administration, and/or therapy, etc
The award shall be made available annually to a Brooks Composite High School graduate planning to attend a post-secondary institution to pursue studies in the Fine or Performing Arts.
AB Summer Games Fine Arts Scholarship Application
The award will be presented annually to a graduate of Brooks Composite High School who is planning to attend a post-secondary institution. The student must have exhibit: commendable citizenship in the school and/or community, a willingness to assist others who are in need, being thoughtful and considerate with others, and a charitable and sharing disposition.
The Kinsmen Scholarship Award is based on the student’s academic achievement: average for the year at a minimum of 75%. The student’s contribution in citizenship areas, including: leadership involvement, extent of involvement, quality of work, and attitude towards school and fellow students. This award will be given to a student who best demonstrates a combination of academic ability and citizenship.
The Brooks Elks Lodge Leadership Scholarship will be presented to a grade 12 student who displays a positive attitude in leadership situations setting a good example for others to follow, is motivated to get the school population to take responsibility for their school surroundings, displays dedication to school in curricular, as well as extracurricular areas, and plans to use the scholarship to further develop his/her leadership skills.
The Brooks Masonic Foundation award will be given to the student who exemplifies the best combination of academic ability and citizenship quality.
The Singh family is pleased to help other Canadians from diverse backgrounds by providing a $500 scholarship to a first generation Canadian student who is planning to pursue a post-secondary education. The scholarship will be chosen by Dr. Singh and his family, and will be awarded on the basis of financial need and academic ability.
The Marilyn Jackson Fine Arts Scholarship, sponsored by the Newell Concert Association, will be awarded to a student who is going into a Fine Arts program (Dance, Music etc.).
Inter Pipeline is committed to supporting youth development and education in the communities in which they operate. The Inter Pipeline Discovery Awards Program provides bursaries to high school students who require financial support to pursue a post-secondary education in an industry-related field.
The Knights of Columbus Scholarship candidate will be a student who is actively involved in his/her faith community and/or actively pursuing religious studies at the post-secondary level. The student must be an active member in the school and the community, be enrolled in a post-secondary school, and possess an above average scholastic performance (70%+).
The Ron & Doreen Brandt Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate of Brooks Composite High School who will be attending a post-secondary institution seeking to become a teacher. In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants must possess a minimum average of 75% in their grade 12 courses.
The award will be made annually to graduates of Brooks Composite High School who live in Tilley and attended Tilley School for Grade 9. Eligible applicants must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution in the fall.
Canadian Schulich Leader Nominees are selected by their high school from graduating students who are intending to study STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) at a participating university.The student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, be attending a Canadian high school, and possess at least two of the three following attributes:
Outstanding community, business or entrepreneurial leadership
Academic excellence
Financial need
Schulich Leader Scholarship Information
Craig Lester is a graduate of BCHS class of 2000. He is an award-winning broadcast journalist and entrepreneur with a passion for covering agriculture and food production stories. He was raised on a farm in the Rolling Hills area and continues to assist his family with their operation. Craig is a heavily involved volunteer with several organizations that build awareness about agriculture and food production. He has been involved with philanthropic work aimed at youth agricultural programming across western Canada. As an avid traveler, Craig has seen agricultural and food production practices around the globe. He’s had the privilege of connecting with people who work in various sectors related to feeding the world. Craig believes food brings people together, and that it is essential to continue to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers.
This scholarship/travel bursary was created in that spirit.
Craig Lester Agricultural – Agri-Food Scholarship/Travel Bursary Application
Applicants for the BCHS Construction Scholarship must be in good standing with Brooks Composite High School, have taken Construction 10, 20 and 30 level courses, and plan to pursue an apprenticeship in the trades.
This bursary is available to Canadian citizens, residing in the Province of Alberta and Northwest Territories. It is intended to assist students whose parents (or family) are in financial need and unable to finance post-secondary education in the Province of Alberta or the Northwest Territories for a minimum two year program. Consideration will be given to attendance at institutions outside of the Province of Alberta or the Northwest Territories only if the course is unavailable within these two jurisdictions.
The Alberta Government Scholarship Program is managed through Student Aid Alberta. After receiving acceptance to attend a Post-Secondary Institution, students should apply Online at the Student Aid Alberta website www.studentaid.alberta.ca for the Alexander Rutherford Scholarships.

CRITERIA: Applicants must apply to the Kinsmen, Kinette or Kin club closest to their permanent address.(BROOKS KINETTES). Each club reviews all submitted application forms and selects ONE to be endorsed and forwarded to the Board of Trustees. The successful recipients and their sponsoring clubs are notified by June 30.

The Alberta 4-H Scholarship program will award over one hundred scholarships with a total value of more than $80,000. By submitting one application, you will be considered for ALL of the Alberta 4-H scholarships for which you are eligible. Each scholarship has a set of criteria that is determined by the scholarship sponsor. Applicants may receive a maximum of one scholarship per year. Recipients will be notified in September about receipt of scholarship. In addition there are also several other scholarships available at this site that students can apply for.
A total of up to 20 TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Candidates must have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year and have demonstrated community leadership.
TD Canada Trust Community Leadership Scholarship Information
Alberta's government offers scholarships and awards to encourage and reward the excellence of Albertans in post-secondary study.
The Ashton Moen scholarship was established by the Newell County Band Association to celebrate the ongoing memory of Ashton and all that she embodied as a member of the BCHS Band department. Her kindness and selflessness were her strongest attributes and were shining examples to others that were fortunate to be around her.
The Florence E. Taylor F Charitable Foundation Scholarship, established through the generous contribution of Florence E. Taylor, Chapter C, Alberta, P.E.O. Sisterhood, provides financial assistance to women who are entering first or second year post-secondary educational programs. Financial need is a consideration. Awards are made at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The minimum award amount is $1,000, and the number of scholarships awarded annually may vary. Scholarship application packages must be submitted to Ms. Fulton by May 15.
South Country Co-op's $1,000 Scholarship Program
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for a scholarship:
The applicant’s family must be a member in good standing of the South Country Co-op Ltd.
The applicant’s family member must have purchases no less than $2,000 in the current fiscal year.
Applicants must provide verification of graduation from a high school within South Country Co-op’s trading area.
The application must include verification of acceptance from a recognized post-secondary institution including proof of paid registration fees.
A typed essay of 500 words or less, compiled by the applicant, must accompany the application. The essay must provide the Member Relations Committee with a clear description of the applicant’s past and present community involvement.
