There have been changes to the School Wellness Mentor roles throughout Grasslands Public Schools. The Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) team will be providing all of the universal programming in all of the District’s schools. The remainder of the Innovations team provides ongoing support for individuals and groups.
Universal programming is any social-emotional learning program that is offered in the classroom or to the school as a whole. For your student, this means that they will have a wellness mentor presenting in their classrooms to teach them emotional intelligence and social skills. You may see worksheets or art come home. There will never be marked homework or grading from these presentations, they are designed to help your student become the best little human that they can be! There are a variety of programs that are offered in classrooms if you would like to know more about what is being offered in your student's class, please contact your school wellness mentor below.
Supports Services for individuals are typically one on one meetings between the Wellness Mentor and a student; whereas groups are programs designed to support a group of students with similar support needs. Students access these services through referral. Any school staff, the student or the parent can refer a child. Once the referral is received it is decided if the Wellness Mentor is the best fit for the student’s needs. If not, the student may be referred to the more appropriate service instead.
