The Cyprus Boy’s Soccer team faced Granger High School on April 16, 2024. Cyprus’s JV team beat Granger 3-0 and Varsity also won 2-1. Both teams played really hard and were competitive.

Marco Ortiz, a Senior on the JV Boys soccer team, played in the match against Granger. He was asked how the game went, He said “ I would say the game went well we were for sure the more dominant team we got there and actually played like we wanted to work for the win we had a few hiccups but we were able to pick it up but overall I think we did pretty solid.

Cyprus and Granger are both very competitive teams and both teams have shown that throughout the season.

In the JV game, Coach De La Cruz stated that he was surprised at how the team started out quite flat and without much energy. He was happy to see that the boys were able to bounce back and really get back into the game with an early goal in the second half and then eventually with a game-winner with one minute left in the game.

Athlete Marco Ortiz said, “The best part for me was for sure running to our goalie who scored the game-winner with a minute left there’s not much that can replace the feeling of that so I would for sure say celebrating that last-minute goal.”

Coach De La Cruz was asked how he thinks the rest of the season will go he said “ I envision a very tight race for the region title where every game will be very important. All that we can control is our team effort and to ensure that we have played to the best of our ability at any given match.”
