Cyprus students, through this school year, have not been following school policies. Such as the one that Cyprus students break the most is the phone policy. Similarly, Adan Herrera Spirt, rep for Latinos of Action, states, “their behavior around the school hasn’t gotten better over the last school year.” Such as the misbehavior of the school bathrooms increasing throughout Cyprus, students skipping in there, or indulging in things that break school policies. Overall, for the 2024-2025 school year, Cyprus High School students' misbehavior has risen.
As previously mentioned, the most common school policy that is broken most frequently is the phone policy. Herrera states that where this policy is broken the most is inside the classrooms. Also, Benjamin Hope's teacher at Cyprus High School says that the most common school policy broken in Cyprus is the phone policy, and he also states how he says it happens the most inside the classroom. And Cyprus student Josue Rojas also states, “most of my teachers don’t enforce the phone policy inside my classrooms.” But another big issue in Cyprus is students skipping and doing illegal things inside the school bathrooms.
“Rather than using the bathrooms for their intended use, they either go in there to hang out, which unfortunately occurs every day, and even once per week, some students indulge in illegal activities or things that aren't permitted at school,” Vice Principal of Cyprus High School Andy Carbaugh states.
And as for what teachers don’t stop students from breaking the policies, herrera states “as the school year goes by, it just seems that teachers have given up on even trying to control what students do, especially with the phone policy which is in part with how students would just straight up not listen to the teacher, but at the same time some teachers still up hold these rules.”
In conclusion, Cyprus students' behavior all over the school has worsened throughout this school year from the last school year.
