New pool at Cyprus High, after the malfunction.
During the second week of October, the brand new pool at Cyprus High got up to temperatures of 102 degrees.
On October 8th 2025, The pool at the new Cyprus campus reached 102 degrees, due to the malfunctioning of the heating and cooling system. According to a student and swimmer at Cyprus High, Dani Anderson, the coach had told her it was some sort of malfunction with the heating and cooling system. Whatever kind of system they were using had a difficult time registering when the pool was warm enough, the system would read that it was actually too cold, continuing to warm the pool.
Anderson also said that it was only 102 degrees on the first day, October 8th, and then gradually got cooler and cooler each day. Stating that “It just got slightly colder every time I got in.”
This malfunctioning pool also made it so the swimmers were unable to practice for just one afternoon. A pool over 90 degrees is incredibly dangerous to practice in, swim practices consist of intense workouts that leave you out of breath. Lap swimming in a pool this warm could easily lead to overheating, dehydration and heat stroke, making it a huge hazard to continue practice in. Luckily the swimmers were back in the pool and able to practice the next day!
The swimmers did not seem too upset with this problem. Some of them even got in during class to enjoy the warm pool, like a big hot tub! The few swimmers I've talked to seemed quite excited about not having to go to practice. Another swimmer and student at Cyprus high, Leah Whipple, came to me excitedly after school saying, “The pool was 102 degrees so we didn't have to get in!”
A concern I had about this situation was, will this affect their performance during their upcoming swim meets? Anderson says, “Since it was weeks away from any meets scheduled I don’t think anyone's performance in a meet was affected.” So luckily this error is not going to set any of them back!
