Is Spongebob Still Relevant?

Spongebob Squarepants season 16 playing December 5, 2025
The answer is yes! People still watch Spongebob. As the new season of Spongebob Squarepants is coming out, I came to wonder, Do people still watch Spongebob? And as I talked to more people about this new season, I came to the realization that most people are not even aware of the most recent seasons. Which led me to question and to figure out, how is spongebob still relevant and popular if nobody is watching the new seasons?
The main reason people aren't watching the new seasons is because ever since the director of Spongebob passed away in 2018, everybody on the internet went off about how, “spongebob isn't the same” and the seasons made after that are just, “bad”. Although people are saying bad things about the new spongebob, there are still lots of spongebob defenders who say everybody just needs to give it an actual chance.
As I interviewed a former student at Cyprus High, Soren Erickson, whom I know as a huge spongebob fan, as soon as I bought up the new season they said, “Wait, spongebob 16?! I didn't even know they made it past 13!”
They went on to say while chuckling, “ I thought they would stop after everybody was dawging on them.”
So how is spongebob still relevant even though people aren't watching the new seasons? Spongebob fans keep spongebob alive by just re-watching the old episodes! Erickson says, “ There's enough spongebob to just watch over and over again and not get bored. Spongebob is so peak I could keep re-watching forever, man.”
The results of a poll I put out indicated that people really just do not know about the new season. 4% of the 20 people who answered the poll have heard about Spongebob season 16, 96% of people have not heard anything about it and no people have seen any of it.
As I went on asking people if they’ve seen or heard about it, multiple people have told me that now that they've heard about it they’re excited and will be watching it!
