This is my 5th year at Arcadia and my 5th year as a classroom teacher. Although this is only my 5th year teaching I am not a stranger to the classroom. I was an intervention assistance for Canyons School District, for about 10 years and a K-3 instructor at American Preparatory Academy, for a year. It was during my time as an intervention assistant that I discovered how much I love guiding students along their journey of discovery and learning. So when the youngest of my four children was in the second grade, I went back to school to cultivate my passion for learning and develop the skills to share it with others. I can't wait to share it with you and see how far you can climb.
Witnessing the success of student learning, is among my favorite things. Also among my favorites are family and family support. I could not be where I am today without the support and encouragement of my family, consisting of my husband, our son and three daughters.
I choose to be happy, even when things go wrong. For example, in the spring of 2016, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The illness and treatments interrupted my educational journey, but it didn't stop me from pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher. During my first year of teaching, my mom passed away and two months later the world was held captive by a devastating pandemic. A year after losing my mom, I was diagnosed with breast cancer again. My dad passed away a month after my diagnosis. While it was hard and near impossible at times to be happy during these difficult times, choosing to do so, helped me to heal faster, and become a stronger version of me.
I believe that we learn best when we are happy and feel safe. We can do hard things. In the words of The Little Engine that Could "I Think I Can!"
