Miss Gilchrist's 4th Grade Class

Class overview

In 4th grade, we take the skills the children have learned in the primary grades and put them to work.  We’re no longer just learning to read, but reading to learn.  We will continue to work on fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension in a variety of ways.  We will increase writing skills, focusing on topic sentences and supporting details, while writing in many different formats.  In math, we will continue to master math facts, learn multi-digit multiplication and long division, gain a greater understanding of place value, learn to use decimals and fractions, as well as skills in measurement, and geometry.  In social studies, we will focus on the history of Utah—from the earliest people to today.  In science we will learn about the animals and plants of Utah--their structures and adaptations.  We will also study about energy transfer through collisions and conversions.  Then we'll learn about wave patterns in sound and light.  We'll finish the year looking at observable patterns in the sky.

About me:

I have always loved school, and have wanted to be a teacher since I was in Elementary School.  I love to teach, I love 4th grade, and I love 4th graders.  I am looking forward to a great year.   A few things about me: I love to read, play the piano, travel, spend time with friends and family, go to live theater and movies, play with paper– make cards, etc. and enjoy time with my 13 nieces and nephews.
