HUNTSMAN MENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTE-HMHI (formerly UNI): FREE COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE PROGRAM

HMHI has teamed up with Salt Lake County and OptumHealth SLCo to provide free crisis response and hospital diversion programs that aim to keep all our family members, friends, and neighbors safe. The community crisis service programs are designed to provide community members with a full range of options to help solve the crisis in the best setting possible.

Our team of professionals are highly trained in mental health crisis management and suicide prevention.


CRISIS SERVICES—CRISIS LINE

CrisisLine: 801-587-3000

Services are available 24/7 both locally and statewide as the Utah affiliate for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255).

Our licensed clinicians provide:

  • prompt and compassionate crisis intervention,

  • suicide prevention, information and referrals,

  • follow-up services,

  • emotional support, and

  • assistance to individuals experiencing emotional distress or psychiatric crisis.

Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT)

Triaged through the CrisisLine, HMHI MCOT provides a free, prompt, face-to-face response to any resident of Salt Lake County who is experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

Youth and adult services teams are available 24/7 and offer consultation and support to:

  • individuals,

  • families,

  • schools,

  • treatment providers, and

  • first responders.

Follow-up services provide ongoing support, including referrals to health care providers and to community-based mental health services.

Receiving Center

The Receiving Center at HMHI is a short-term (up to 23 hours) secure center providing:

  • therapeutic crisis management,

  • an assessment based on strengths and psychiatric needs,

  • medication intervention, and

  • wellness recovery/discharge planning.

It is staffed by psychiatrists, advance practice nurses, social workers, certified peer specialists, and psychiatric technicians.

This line is for Salt Lake County residents who are not in crisis, but seeking:

  • support,

  • engagement, or

  • encouragement.

Certified peer specialists offer support and empower callers to resolve problems by fostering a sense of hope, dignity, and self-respect.

Callers may speak with peer specialists daily from 8 am to 11 pm.

Provided to you in your home to ease an immediate challenge and provide support.

  • Minimize the impact of the challenge on you and your family

  • Create safety plans

  • Connect you and your family to other helpful resources

Stabilization Services

Short-term services may be provided in addition to mobile response to help ensure your family’s long-term success.

  • Teach skills to improve family functioning

  • Create plans that prepare you for and prevent future challenges

  • Prevent the need for out-of-home services

  • Equip you with ongoing resources and support

What is SafeUT Crisis Chat & Tip Line?

The SafeUT Crisis Chat and Tip Line is a statewide service that provides real-time crisis intervention to youth through live chat and a confidential tip program – right from your smartphone.

Licensed clinicians in our 24/7 CrisisLine call center respond to all incoming chats and calls by providing:

  • supportive or crisis counseling,

  • suicide prevention, and

  • referral services.

We can help anyone with emotional crises, bullying, relationship problems, mental health, or suicide-related issues.

Intermountain Healthcare launched the new, free community call-in resource in partnership with the University of Utah’s Neuropsychiatrist Institute (UNI) Crisis line, and Utah’s Department of Human Services. It can be reached seven days a week from 10 am to 10 pm.

THE UTAH STRONG RECOVERY PROJECT

If you or someone you know is experiencing stress, anxiety or depression because of COVID-19, talk to a crisis counselor seven days a week, 7a-7p. All information is confidential and free of charge.
