When I was in 7th grade and I was running for Bonneville SBO, I honestly didn't really have a purpose for running. However, I've changed a lot since then and now I'm running so that I can influence other students in a positive way. If I do get elected into office, I hope to achieve three main goals which are as follows. 1. Help at least 10 people in real, deep struggles when they actually need it. 2. Positively influence the school as a whole and be the best person I can be. 3. Have fun and help everyone around me have fun. I believe I have good qualifications to be a class officer as I do everything to the best of my ability and do my best to help others out. I have a pretty strong voice and I'm always up for listening to others opinions. I plan to be attentive and listen to my peers. As I previously stated, one of my main goals is to positively influence the school as best as I can and to also be the best I can be.
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
The first initiative I would work on as a Class Officer would be working to make sure that all Cottonwood events have good marketing and influence. If a school dance is coming up soon and there's no news about the dance, no one will show up. My job would be to make social media posts, posters around the schools, and intercom announcements to bring attention to the upcoming event.
The second initiative I would work on would be keeping people engaged and included. The ideal situation for any event happening is that EVERYONE is included and is having fun. But this will basically never happen so the initiative I would take would be working to get as close as possible to that situation. This means actively looking around to see if anyone is left out or not enjoying themselves so that I can help them.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
To me, being a Colt means being someone who is there for everyone else and is also there for themselves. Nobody is perfect and a Colt's job is to be there for someone when they need it. However, a Colt also needs to focus on their own well being as self-esteem, self confidence, and love for yourself are all important things. Colt's should be hardworking and do everything they can to the best of their ability. As long as they give it their all, they'll be just fine.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
One way I'd develop activities to make everyone feel welcome and included would be having several stations and activities in this one activity. There should be multiple attractions during activities so that people don't have to wait forever to do one singular thing.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
The only advice I can really give is to not overdo yourself. Hardwork is important but burnout will only affect your attendance and academics negatively. I'd also say to remember the consequences of your actions as not meeting standards will lead to academic probation.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
Qualities that make a great leader are showing compassion and courage, and setting a good example for others. Whatever the class officers do, other students will assume that is accepted behavior so class officers have to set a good example. Class officers should also take chances and care for others.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
I'm pretty good at showing compassion and empathizing. I always listen to my peers when they need me to and I always try to understand what they are going through. This will help me to be understanding and mindful. I enjoy helping people and influencing them in a positive way and that will make a much better Class Officer than I would be without.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
As stated in question #6, I am good at showing compassion and empathizing.
I am very good at using technology so creating social media posts won't be too hard for me and I use instagram already anyways.
I enjoy writing and making things as I find it satisfying so I'll be good at informing students.
"Attention teachers and students, pardon the interruption. Throughout this year, we've seen amazing work AND effort from all of the Colts attending Cottonwood High School. But one student in particular has really piqued our interest. Who exactly is this extraordinary student? None other than Luke Evans of the 8th Grade. Luke is not only someone who attends almost every single school event but is also someone who is always there when you need him. The only thing that is as fantastic as Luke's kindness is his academic situation with a near 4.0 GPA. Luke is not only a great student, but an even greater friend and for that reason we are proud to announce him as Student of the Year of 2026. Luke if you would please come down to the office we would love to reward you with a certificate and a prize. Congratulations Luke, thank you Colts for listening to this message and have a great rest of your day."
Task: Create a sample intercom announcement (written out) advertising a student (of your choice) as a Student of the Year winner. Additionally create 3 social media posts to encourage your particular grade to attend 3 events (of your choice) at Cottonwood.
