Consult with Special Education
Hold a Manifesation Determination meeting with a District Coordinator
Consult with District 504 Coordinator
Hold a Manifestation Determination meeting at the school level
Consult with a member of the Complainant's and/or Respondent's IEP team
Parent Contact: Contact as soon as possible - ideally in person, then phone call, and last email or letter
Communicate accusation, findings, and intervention/discipline
Use the optional Conduct Violation Parent Letter
Contact parents, especially with bullying, cyberbullying, hazing, retaliation, or any civil rights conduct violation
Focus on corrective rather than punitive discipline
Use Restorative Practice Protocols and alternatives to suspension
Use suspension judiciously (absences excused); 3-day, basic right to respond; 4 to 10-day, requires Student Services and Prevention approval; 10 cumulative days within a school year, notice and hearing
Ensure Due Process:
Gather any additional evidence
Ensure the student has sufficient opportunity to respond
Use CSTAG (threat assessment) when appropriate
Findings:
Consider aggravating and mitigating factors (e.g., past incidents and interventions)
Base conclusions on evidence
Outcomes:
Seek alternatives to suspension
Document outcome of investigation
Notify parents verbally and in writing

Ensure school referral is complete and correct
Hold due process meeting with the accused parent
Hold due process meeting with the Complainant(s) and parent if appropriate
