I’m running because I want to bring more ideas to the table, to have more people represented, and to continue strengthening the Cottonwood community. I believe that through giving more people a voice, the experience of all will improve, and that the students and community of Cottonwood deserve the best experience. Through working with both students and adults to create meaningful changes and connections, we can continue the great legacy of Cottonwood.
If elected, two initiatives I will focus on are creating a more unified school community and increasing trust between staff and students. To increase unity, I would work to plan and promote activities with different groups of students so everyone feels included and connected. This can look like activities that bring together multiple grades, clubs, or other student groups to help more people feel represented in activities. I would help strengthen trust between staff and students by encouraging more open communication. Encouraging students and staff to give their perspectives on activities and issues, and following up on feedback, will help increase trust because each side will know their opinions are listened to and valued. When students and staff trust each other, it creates a positive learning environment for all.
Being a Colt means fostering meaningful connections with others, celebrating individuality and diversity, and contributing to a community built on kindness, respect, and trust. Cottonwood's community is rich with different ideas, cultures, and traditions, and I'm proud to be a Colt.
One way I would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included is by involving a wide range of student groups in the planning and execution of activities. I would invite people from a wide range of groups like LIA, NHS, performing arts, and other clubs, as well as the various teams, to participate in planning and carrying out events. Having input and help from people outside of student government will increase the reach and impact of activities, helping more people feel represented and included.
I would encourage others to set clear goals for their short- and long-term futures. Maintaining good grades and attendance during high school will help set them up for future successes. And because surrounding myself with people who share similar goals helps me stay motivated, I would encourage others to also form relationships with people who will keep them accountable and encourage them to keep working hard.
Some qualities that make a great leader are empathy, respect for the people they are leading, organization, commitment to their position, and flexibility.
A leadership quality I have is dedication. When I have responsibilities I will see them through and give my all to make our school community the best it can be. My dedication will help me be a great SBO at Cottonwood because I will give my all to the position.
