I am running for SBO Vice President because I want to help make Cottonwood a place where everyone feels welcome, celebrated, and seen. I want to really listen to all ideas then turn words into actions. I love Cottonwood, the people here, and I think it can be a great place to find community. I want to represent Cottonwood by having and encouraging school spirit! There are so many things at Cwood that can bring unity and pride for our school and I want to help make them shine!
I'd love to hear your thoghts! Email me at 9719964@graniteschools.org
As an SBO, two initiatives I will work on are building a sense of community and belonging at Cottonwood through getting to know all students at Cwood. I also want to work on making Cottonwood a more welcoming place for everyone by highlighting all voices.
To me, being a Colt means being proud of who you are and where you come from. Cottonwood is so diverse and I think that is just one of the main reasons I love being a Colt. To me being a Colt is celebrating our uniqueness while being part of things that bring us all together.
One way that I would help develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome is by initiating activities during homeroom period that bring people together and incorporate group connection. Engaging with new people is a great way to expand empathy, find a community, and help make others feel welcome and seen.
Staying motivated with academics and attendance throughout the year can be very challenging, everyone struggles with it at times. I find that thinking about the future you want, whatever it may be, can bring motivation. Also talk to your teachers!! They are there to help you. So many people at school care about you and want you to succeed and leaning on those who can help is always an amzing option to find some motivation.
I think some attributes that make a fantastic leader are qualities such as being able to step up when needed but also delegate responsibilities so tasks can get done efficiently and have contribution from other people. I also think that good organization can make a great leader so working well with others can be smooth.
A leadership quality that I possess is being direct and driven in what I do. When there is something I have to achieve or am tasked with I am direct with how I complete it and am driven with wanting to get it done well.
SBO Vice President Task
Create a list of at least 4 Homecoming Homeroom activity ideas that you think students would enjoy and how you think those ideas will create a sense of belonging and unity in the school. Additionally, describe your plan for organizing the Humans of Cottonwood Instagram account and how you will delegate the responsibilities among the Class Officer Vice Presidents. Write two questions you could ask students to answer for the Humans of Cottonwood Instagram account.
-Trash Pick Up Day
This would help bring belonging and unity at the school because it puts everyone for the same cause. We all attend cwood and we can help our building shine a little brighter all together by keeping it clean and ready for the school year to come.
-Door Decorate
I think students will enjoy this homeroom activity because it can allow for group work within the homeroom class, encourage people to work with those they don’t often, and let creative sparks fly!
-Design An Outfit For Charlie The Horse
We love Charlie and he's a big face we see a lot during homecoming week. Charlie could visit the homeroom classes and see all the outfits designed for him. Each homeroom could work on a drawing, or online media of a costume for Charlie! Kind of like the disguise a turkey.
-Schoolwide Paper Plane Contest
This would be a fun, engaging and uniting activity for cwood students because it adds some friendly competition with working together! Homeroom classes will feel more connected with the people they are working with because they all want the same thing: to win!
To organize the Humans of Cottonwood instagram account I would do a mix of photo posts as well as video posts because it will keep viewers engaged with the variety of media. I would like to do at least one post a month but preferably two depending on what else is going on in student government at the time. To delegate responsibilities with the other vice presidents I will have us all contribute with the instagram account and have people switch around whether they are the one coming up with questions, filming, in front of the camera, editing, ect. So everyone has a chance to try a new role!
Two questions that could be asked could be, “If you could describe yourself in three words what would they be?” and “What do you look forward to when you come to school?”
