Hi Colts! My name is Hadlyn Boyd for those who don’t know me. I’m running for SBO Communications and I can’t wait for this campaign! My reasons for running are endless because I love being in Student Government and the community it brings but one reason I am running is because I have been in Student Government for the past two years in the role of Communications and it has been my absolute favorite. I love participating in the announcements and making fun instagram posts to keep everyone informed and involved. I hope to achieve a sense of belonging and community while in office. Some qualificiations I possess to be an officer include: responsible, comhmunicative, accountable, flexible, and much more! I hope to represent CHS in a positive and innovative manner by keeping everyone in the loop with well done instagram posts and announcements. When people know what is going on and the events that are taking place at Cottonwood they feel involved and included. I want to make people feel that way. We all deserve to feel included and known. I also want to truly represent all the groups at Cottonwood, not just specific ones. We have so much talent at CHS that it deserves to be shared and talked about in great ways. Thank you for considering me for this position and I look forward to the future of Cottonwood.
Two initiatives that I will work on as an SBO next year if I were elected would be:
1. To include our whole Cottonwood community and come together as one. By doing that I’m wanting to persuade others to be involved in activities and come to our fun events where we want people to be.
2. My next initiative would be to support all my students academically and socially. I will be your biggest cheerleader and supporter for all your events. By making sure to let people know when certain events are happening and include one another. We have an amazing theater department. We want people to show up to their events, we have an amazing softball team and we want people to show up to those events. We have so many amazing groups at Cottonwood that need your support. I will show up for you. WE will show up for one another.
To me being a Colt means being a hardworking student and a person that is motivated to get stuff done. Being a Colt is a privilege and an honor. I am lucky to be one.
One way that I would develop activities to make everyone feel welcomed and included at Cottonwood is to create all the Instagram posts of upcoming Cottonwood activities earlier to keep everyone in the loop instead of just the day of the event. We want people to come and bring our community together.
Some advice that I have to stay motivated with academics throughout the school year especially if you’re a senior struggling with senioritis is: Make a goal. Any goal. Make class on time that week and try your hardest to be alert. When you make a goal each week even the little accomplishments make academics go smoother and faster.
Some qualities that I know make a great leader include: confidence, kindness, accountability, humility, and good work ethic. When you add all of these qualities together you get an amazing leader and human.
One leadership quality that I have is strong communication skills. This will help me to be a good SBO at Cottonwood because you’re going to have to use your voice to guide, direct, and lead others. I can do that. I know how to talk to anyone and communicate clearly and understandably. I know this will help me lead through Cottonwood.
SBO Communications Officer Task
Create a sample intercom announcement (written out) advertising a student (of your choice) as a Student of the Year winner. Additionally create 3 social media posts to encourage your particular grade to attend 3 events (of your choice) at Cottonwood. SBOs, give three ideas for making the YouTube live announcements engaging. How will you include other members of Student Government in these Live Announcements?
Sample Intercom Announcement: Goooood afternoon Colts! It’s Hadlyn Boyd, your SBO of Communications and today we have a special announcement, so everyone needs to listen up. If I could get a drum roll for the announcement of our Student of the Year Winner please: *“Drum rolllllllll”* Your Student of the Year is: Henry Bowles!! Henry Bowles is currently a Junior at Cottonwood and one of the hardest working students I've ever known. Make sure to congratulate Mr. Bowles if you see him. We love you Henry, congratulations! Make sure to stop by the main office sometime today to pick up your prize! That is all for today's Colts! I thank you for tuning in and your support. We love you xoxo, Hadlyn!
3 Ideas for making the YouTube Live Announcements engaging:
My first idea for making the YouTube Live Announcements engaging is to do more fun activities during the announcements. Such as fun challenges or dares to do.
My second idea for making the YouTube Live Announcements engaging is to have special guest stars on the announcements like not just guests in Student Gov. Maybe the kids in theater, the robotics program, the athletes. Really including everyone because that truly is what makes Cottonwood great!!
My third idea for making the Youtube Live Announcements engaging is to have a dedicated game day announcement where we do trivia games or wheel of fortune, charades, all the good stuff. Invite students to come on and make it a party!!
