I am running for SBO Dance ASC to make school dances fun, inclusive, and memorable. I plan to represent Cottonwood High School positively and innovatively by bringing creative themes, interactive activities, and events that showcase our school spirit. I will listen to students' ideas and ensure everyone feels welcome on the dance floor. Let's pop the doubt and make our dances the best they can be.
Two initiatives I will work on and SBO next year are: students get to request songs for the dance playlist during the week before the dance via a Google form or QR code, and the second is Battle of the Playlists, where each grade gets to create a playlist to be featured at the dance that the
Being a Cottonwood Colt is like being a part of a community, where we are celebrated no matter our background, and I always have somewhere I can feel safe and belong. As a Cottonwood Student, we are taught that being 'GREAT' is more than just our grades; it’s about being goal-oriented, respectful, engaged, accountable, and tolerant. I try to live out that vision of being excellent every day.
One way I could help develop good ideas that involve everyone at Cottonwood is to use Kolt TV to drive more awareness of upcoming dances and host dance activities during the week of each dance.
Some advice I have for people is don't doubt yourself. I know it's easy to fall behind and feel like there is no way you can catch back up, but trust me, there is a way. The only thing you really need to do is tell yourself, 'That no matter what happens, it's going to be ok, and that you are smart,' and with your attendance, I know it sucks to get up every morning just to come to school and sit in a desk, but it will get better. Just think about it in ten years, when you have graduated from college or started your own business, it will have all been worth it.
To be a good leader, you need to be able to take the criticism that comes with it, have integrity, keep a positive attitude, have an open mindest, be a good listener, be hardworking, be a problem solver and have clear communication.
One of the top leadership qualities I have is keeping a positive attitude even in the most challenging times. I'm often reminded that everything happens for a reason and there is something to learn from everything.
SBO Dance Officer Task
Develop a Homecoming Dance theme that fosters unity among the Cottonwood High School student body. Explain how the chosen location, décor, music selection, and DJ coordination will work together to create an engaging, inclusive, and memorable experience for all students.
Theme: Rio Nights
Decor: Red, blue, yellow arch with streamers and balloons. We could make some lanterns with red, blue, and yellow. And with the photo booth, we could have a wooden or black backdrop, tropical greenery, and we could splash some fun colors on it like red, blue, and yellow, and we could add feathers and accordion paper decor in so many colors.
Location: Outside on the football field.
Music Selection: I want music that feels tropical, high-energy, danceable, and a little Latin-inspired, but still includes songs everyone at a high school dance knows. A good mix of Latin pop, Reggaeton, dance pop, and popular hype songs.
DJ Coordination: It should make the night feel like a tropical beach party mixed with a Brazilian carnival. The key is building energy throughout the night, mixing Latin, tropical, and popular dance music, and planning when certain types of songs play.
